David Silk regularly practices before municipal and state agencies on such matters as land use, zoning, and environmental matters, and property tax issues. He advises individuals, businesses and nonprofits on a wide range of property, insurance and contract related issues. David represents individuals and entities on property, probate and estate related issues, including issues arising out of the joint ownership of property, boundary disputes, will contests, adverse possession claims, title related issues, and riparian rights. He also represents clients in personal injury and product liability matters. He appears regularly before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, Maine’s highest court, and in both Maine State and Federal courts. David also serves as a mediator in property and contract related disputes.
Prior to entering private practice, he served as a law clerk to Associate Justice Louis Scolnik of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He is peer review rated AV by the Martindale-Hubbell for ethical standards and legal ability.
Community Service
From 1987 until 2004, David served on the City of Portland Board of Assessment Review. Since 2004, he has served on the City of Portland Planning Board and is presently its chair. He is a past director of the University of Maine School of Law Alumni Association. He also serves or has served as an officer and director of several non-profit organizations including Housing Initiatives of New England, The Children’s Center, the Falmouth Country Club, Friends of the YWCA, and is a former Trustee of the Stroudwater Village Association.
