Bob Stevens chairs the firm’s Real Estate Practice Area. He specializes in the acquisition, financing, and sales of properties connected to pulp and paper mills, timberlands, manufacturing and office buildings, shopping centers, government assisted housing projects, hydro power, natural gas and biomass stand alone and co-generation energy production facilities, wind power developments and electric power transmission corridors. Bob is particularly adept at negotiating specially tailored title insurance coverage.
Bob’s general corporate practice includes formation of and on-going services to all types of legal entities in many economic sectors. His business regulatory work includes licensing and regulation of life, accident and health, and title insurance companies, health maintenance organizations and lenders.
Bob was a partner in the Chicago law firm of Lord, Bissell & Brook before moving to Maine in 1975 to help found the firm.
Representative Matters
Bob has chaired Town of Freeport boards including the Planning Board, Board of Appeals, Town Council and the Community Center Capital Campaign Committee. He served as Freeport’s delegate to the Economic Development Council of The Greater Portland Council of Governments and was a representative from the Senate District to the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee.

- Negotiation of land and water route rights for Neptune Regional Transmission System’s electric transmission system between New Jersey and Long Island
- Acquisition and restructuring of Kennebec River Pulp & Paper Company
- Renegotiation of municipal waste handling agreements with Maine Energy and Penobscot Energy Recovery Companies
- Loan to permit ESOP acquisition of multi-state office professional service organization
- Acquisition and refinancing of units of subsidized housing in the Eastern United States
- Development and acquisition of Portland buildings including One City Center, Canal Plaza and the Portland Museum of Art
- Maine representation of financial institutions involving acquisition, development, permitting and operation of pulp and paper mills, lumber companies, railroads and hydroelectric and co-generation facilities, including Citizens Bank, ABN AMRO, LaSalle Bank, Scotia Capital, KeyBank and Credit Suisse
- Representation of regional development and national and state conservation organizations in land acquisition and preservation matters
- Organized and operates one of the first title insurance agencies in Maine and arranges title insurance and endorsements for complicated real estate and mixed property projects.
